Memories can be held in objects. Sometimes, they break.

I sometimes have clumsy episodes that result in a dish getting broken; usually, it isn’t something that happens more often that once a year. Now it’s happened twice in a month - and for two items that held special significance to me:

  1. Early in January, I broke a bowl that was part of the dishware that bubie Ann used to have.

She died in the summer of 1988… these dishes are all I have left of her - and now, I have one less.

  2. Tonight I broke another bowl - one that happened to be the only thing I bought in 1986, when I first had an apartment to myself. The store I purchased it at is long gone; now, after 14 years, so is the dish.

Memories can be held in objects. Sometimes, they break. I just hope the memories don’t break with them.

The clock is ticking away on my contract at work… March 2nd it ends, and I’ve had no word of it continuing. I have been following a schedule to get this Website finished before then however…

I have to spruce up my resumé now, start pushing for a job elsewhere. I won’t let this 11 months working just be a temporary lull between Unemployment and Welfare cheques…

SurvivorBlog 2. Yup, just as the second series is about to begin, a weBlog version is online. Funny how Ernie had stated he wouldn’t do one again. *smile*

Speaking of Survivor 2: I still haven’t decided if I’ll watch it or not. I didn’t watch the first one, after all. I generally make a point of avoiding trends in the media - which is why I have yet to watch a single episode of The West Wing, despite friends recommending it often. One thing I doubt I’ll ever watch is Titanic… I loathe Celine Dion to begin with, and I grew sick of all the buzz around that film.

I’m using a friend’s Cable modem at the moment. I’ve never had a chance to experience high-speed connection like this!

Soon as I’m set up in my new Adapted Housing (sometime before 2010…) I’ll have to get myself a similar system.

I can’t stress enough how sucky life can be at times.

Being in debt, working ‘just over broke’, not even sure if this contract will continue or not… it really gets tiring at times.

Sad news when I woke up this morning: Al Waxman died at 65. He had a heart condition.

Some of you know him as the police chief on Cagney and Lacey years ago, or for frequent specials as host on TV.

For myself and many other Canadians though, we knew him as King of Kensington, main character on a Canadian sitcom in the late 1970s - early 1980s. King was based in the Kensington suburb of Toronto, a city that many of us ridicule, yet Kensington has a charm of its own.

Personally, it made me pause; my own dad just had heart surgery last November, and he’s only 3 years younger than Waxman was.

Goodbye to an old friend.

This was a day of whistful memories for me: my best friend’s grandmother died today. It brought me back to that summer day in 1988 when my own bubie died.

It’s been 13 years now. The pain of loss has dimmed to a regular burning glow. Whoever said that time heals all wounds was full of it… 13 years, and it’s a sad day that I still feel. It hits me often, in my kitchen… my main dish set came from what was brought from her last apartment here in Montreal. On ocassion, a plate or bowl breaks; at that time, realization that I’ve just lost a small part of my past brings me a moment of deep sadness.

My heart really goes out to my buddy. I can understand what he must be going through right now.
