This was the least unpredictable results: Dwight D’eon was eliminated.
I’m not heartbroken about this. Dwight just wasn’t really talented enough (he is still better than I am, mind you). He’s a great guitarist, and is better suited to rock.
Now, Jaydee has to go next week!

The best line of the show was in Zach’s critique of JayDee Bixby’s first song: he was in the pocket of a pair of jeans back at home.
That was an appropriate comment. Being born about 40 years past these songs, he had no frame of reference, and without a popular country song to sing (wrong genre that night) he was really a duck out of water.
None of the contestants were born in that era, but both Carlie and Brian still shone. Duane seemed the furthest out of his element here though… I suspect he’ll be cut this week.

Jill won’t like this, but Carlie was safe this week.
Unfortunately so was Jay(Sanjaiya)Dee.
Matt Rapley was eliminated this week. I expected him to be cut before the end, but his performance was still better that fellow bottom-runger Dwight D’eon.

We’re down to the Final Five, so they got to perform full songs, instead of cut to a minute.
I can’t overstate enough how JayDee Bigsby really stank up the stage. Jake Gold said how the performances this show were to prove they could add something to the songs instead of to imitate - then JayDee gave an imitation of Elvis, and a mediocre one at best.
Most likely he’ll be safe. Idol often celebrates mediocrity.
On the flipside Carlie Raye Jepsen gave a fantastic rendition of the song Chuckie’s in Love. She’s so adorable onstage, and is really Canada’s Sweetheart.
She’s unique on the show, so odds are that she’ll be cut. I hope I’m wrong.

Jaydee Bigsby is our Canadian answer to Sanjiya.
He mostly stays on tune, which is a difference, but he doesn’t really have the talent needed, and he’s in the Top 5 now, undeserved.
Case in point: both he and Tara Oram weren’t terribly good Monday - but she made the bottom 3, and he did NOT. Worse: when he couldn’t even try the higher notes of his song choice, and the one who was actually entertaining and skilled, Carly Rae Jepsen, was at risk again. She’s the only one in this group who would be interesting as an Idol, but she keeps getting near being cut.
At least she wasn’t eliminated; Tara was.

(I know: another non-jazz themed show. I’m a graduate of film school, so it interests me.)
I actually saw this last Wednesday on FOX, but I didn’t want to spoil it for any of my fellow Canadians who see it Sunday on CTV.
Zack, considered by many as the frontrunner was eliminated.
The significant thing about it: the sole Canadian is now gone.
Ah well… he was amazing with visual effects, but weak on storytelling skills. Ultimately that seems to have caught up with him.

It took me a few days to post this for a simple reason: I was completely shocked by the results.
I agree with Jake Gold: the Bottom Three should have been the Top Three of the week: Carly Rae Jepsen, Greg Neufeld and Brian Melo were the three on the block. I’ve made no bones about my hopes for Carly to make the finals - and with my general underwhelmed feelings about Brian… well, my dismay here speaks volumes.
When Greg was eliminated, I just wondered what the rest of Canada are smoking or drinking. Even Ben Mulroney broke with his script to voice his displeasure.
Greg will likely get success elsewhere.
