American Idol 10 -why the finale will be dull now

Hayley Reinhart was eliminated. Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina will be the final contestants now.

I spoke yesterday about how dull I find Scotty, and Lauren just hasn’t been as good as she was in her audition. She isn’t like Claire on Heroes (‘save the cheerleader, save the world.’). It feels as if Scotty will win no matter what, and he will just represent fans of Country music, where there are all ready many baritones: Randy Travis, Brad Paisley, Alan Jackson…

American Idol 2011 – Final 3 performance show

I haven’t posted every week regularly, so I’ve built up several thoughts on the show:

1. I’m still upset that Pia was eliminated – and so soon too! She was a major front-runner.

2. I didn’t think that Naima would go far, but the timing of her elimination was bad. Her version of Elton John‘s I’m Still Standing was very inventive.

3. Casey’s elimination became the latest Judges Save to not get far. I believe he’s the third.

4. He makes for the first time that I have jazz content in the same post. He said he wished he’d had a chance to perform with Oscar Peterson.

5. Paul being eliminated didn’t upset me. I didn’t like his style. What did upset me is that a better singer (Pia) was eliminated before him.

6. James’ elimination last week was a shock for several reasons: he was eliminated the night after the judges gushed over him. He was the other front-runner too. I thought he and Pia would be the final 2, with her the winner. He was my favorite.

Now, to this week:

I suspect that Scotty McCreery is at least bound to the Finals, but I’m not pleased with it. One person I know calls his voice sleep inducing, but I think she just doesn’t like Country music. I do — but I like variety. He’s been a one-trick pony all season, only singing country. Even the Elvis songs he chose were country-based. Carie Underwood also sings country, but she also performs more varied songs.

The judges like Lauren Alaina, but I wasn’t impressed. I found the music often drowned her out.

I’ve come to like Hayley Reinhart‘s voice more the past few weeks. She wowed me with every song yesterday.

Ultimately, I think Lauren will be eliminated this week, but I’ve been wrong before.
