First, I have to express surprise: Xenia has a recording contract? Really? Dea Framton I could understand. Nakkia too has a tremendous voice – and of course there’s winner Javier Colon.

There were some excellent singers on this show, but also a few disappointing ones. The guy named ‘Duckie’ had an interesting look, but he wasn’t really an interesting singer.  That no judge chose him is no surprise to me.

Part 2 aired Thursday on FOX; here in Canada it airs on the CTV network, but it doesn’t air the 2nd part until the weekend. I’m not so patriotic that I’d wait.

They had high drama from a young contestant stepping off the audition stage and plummeting to the floor below.

In the first season a few contestants fell, but I think this was the first time for the current stage.

This began after the Super Bowl, but it started half an hour later than advertised, so I didn’t record it all.

I like one big change from Idol: the auditioners were already picked. As a result we heard no clunkers, though some were still disappointing. One guy in show 1 was too timid.

The blind auditions take care of that. They are exciting too. With all the judges facing away unless they choose to try to get someone on their team gives us the viewers curiosity.

So far host Carson Daly isn’t that big a deal to me, but he’s still much better than the former host of X-Factor, Steve Jones>

They went to several new regions this time!

Series producer Nigel Lithgow and co-creator Simon Fuller also finally changed some things for the better. Most of the shows were only an hour, so they were more focused on showing us the talented people instead of all of the awful ones. Those still showed up on screen long enough to be told “No.” and a small handful of them got full air time (we  couldn’t have been amazed at Magic Cyclops otherwise), but overall the pain was diminished.

The only disappointing thing: we didn’t have a ‘Pants on the Ground’-like thing this year.
