Idol catch-up

I waited to make sure that I didn’t spoil results for the West coast. Ryan Seacrest got in trouble a few weeks ago for tweeting results after the show and ruining it for those who hadn’t seen it yet.

The songs of Lennon and McCartney made a fascinating theme a few years ago, and this time was no different. Some of the performances were strange though. Lee DeWyze sang a great version of Hey Jude, but having a bagpiper stroll down was very strange. It reminded me of a Julian Lennon concert here in Montreal a few months after his only album, with his sole hit song. Overall it was a dull concert, the only real saving grace when he brought a giant harmonica prop out.

I didn’t agree with the results though. I thought Andrew Garcia performed weakest overall. Michael Lynch was actually pretty good. He was well-worth the judges save though.

I also don’t think Tim Urban‘s performance was that good.

Next week is a double elimination because of the save. Maybe Tim will finally get cut then.

Idol Results – March 31st, 2010

Hang on: Puff Daddy has changed his name again? Is he trying to top Prince?

The bottom 3 weren’t exactly as I predicted. Siobhan Magnus was safe (soon-to-be cut Tim Urban replaced her), Didi I predicted… Katie Stevens was a surprise this week, but she was saved.

While the composition of the bottom 3 was different from my prediction, the end result was the same: Didi Bonami was the lowest vote getter, and she wasn’t saved… so she’s now the 3rd eliminated contestant.

Thoughts on last night’s Idol performance show

I’m behind on posting, but Paige Miles was awful last week. She earned elimination. I agree with one of my Q-92 radio hosts last week: Tim Urban must have been happy with that.

He was still mediocre this week. I think he’ll be in the bottom 3 this week, along with Didi Bonami and, I’m sorry to say, Sioban Magnus. Based on overall performance though, I think Didi will be cut.

Top 12 2010: The First Cut is… weird

First off, I may be an old fogey but Keisha‘s “Blah, blah blah” is a terrible song to me.

I was concerned that the contestants would be copycats of the Rolling Stones, but every song was an original take.

I was surprised by the results though. Tim Urban was the weakest of the bottom three… but he was safe! The eliminated contestant (Lacey Brown) wasn’t great granted – but she is better.

Paige Miles deserved better too, soldiering on through laryngitis to perform anyway.

Sioban Magnus had the performance of the night. I thought she could give other glasses wearers a better feeling of self-worth… if she kept them on, at least.
